Intricate Expressions of folk Design

Explore the captivating journey of Manoj K Manttra through expressive and intricate drawings. This artwork captures a moment from the ancient Indian epic, Ramayana—the poignant scene where Ram and Lakshman venture into the forest in search of the golden deer, a turning point that would change the course of their lives and Sita’s destiny. Rendered in a surreal, emotional style, the image shows Ram and Lakshman with childlike forms yet bearing the weight of warriors. They are entangled in wild, almost chaotic strands of nature—symbolizing both the forest’s mystery and the web of fate pulling them deeper into destiny.Their expressions are intense, focused, but not without innocence—perhaps reflecting the purity of their purpose, even as they are drawn into the deception of the golden deer, a trap set by Ravana. The earthy tones in the background hint at the serenity of the forest, now disturbed by divine drama. This piece is not just a scene—it’s a memory of loyalty, sacrifice, and the fragile beauty of moments that seem simple, yet echo through eternity.

This painting is a contemporary spiritual artwork created by the artist Manojkumar S., dated 2013. It depicts Lord Shiva in a meditative or dance-like pose using intricate linework and symbolic patterns.   This soulful artwork by Manojkumar S. beautifully portrays Goddess Saraswati — the divine muse of knowledge, music, and grace. With flowing lines and gentle curves, she sits in quiet elegance, strumming the veena of wisdom. Her calm eyes speak of peace, her form radiates purity, and each detail whispers a sacred hymn of learning and light. Set against soft golden hues, the painting becomes a prayer — silent, still, and deeply moving. A tribute to the divine source of inspiration, this piece is not just seen, but felt — in the heart, in the soul.

This tender artwork by Manojkumar S. captures a heartwarming bond between Lord Ganesha and his loyal companion, the mouse. Rendered in intricate lines against a tranquil turquoise sky, the divine figure glows with innocence, warmth, and quiet joy. With a gentle smile and playful grace, Ganesha embraces his vahana—not just as a symbol, but as a friend, a soul connection. The composition radiates love, simplicity, and a sense of sacred companionship. More than a painting, it is a feeling—of trust, of divine play, and of the beauty in small, faithful friendships.

PEARLS, FROM A DEEP SEA DRAWN BY KESHAV MALIK

Manoj Manttra’s paper based pen & ink drawings offer a number of artistic thrills. Often based on Mythological lore, as for instance the work titled Ravana singing, the works are steeped in a non-rational poetic element, that intrigues as well as holds ones attention in suspense. The often singing or ecstatic figures —denizens from the deeps of the artist’s subconscious, are don with a delicately fine needle work, as it were and are marked by strong evocative feelings. So that this body of drawings, of much finesses is no hit and miss exercise but the delineation of potent symbols which end up giving a fresh incarnation to what is India common knowledge, or those ideals that inhabit this vast and varied subcontinent’s life the artist combines excellent draughtsman ship with passion to remake a world of creative imagination to which on responds sensuously, as also with astonishment. Manoj has not set out to shock us out of our received ideas or image, but so that we may red is cover what is unconscious in us in to full contemplative awareness. It is as that though the artist dug deep into this culture’s literary foundations and then made it his self-instituted task to provoke us out of our clichés and amnesia.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               I believe that in these times of trifling artistic concoctions limited to time present, and Which all pass out of sight soon, Manttra is doing just the right things! ---stimulating our slumbering memories briskly so that we can really re-experience the visions salvaged from Times immemorial. Only few artists on the scene. have taken to drawing with same vehement zeal. These Works are dreams but which carry the feel of a permanent reality, that of our own inner minds.
